Posted on Monday, February 28, 2022

Everyone needs a good local pub they can pop into after a long day at work or on a hot sunny day. If you live in Finchley or are thinking of moving to the area you won’t be disappointed in what it has to offer, and to give you an idea here are some of the best pubs in the area.

The Joiners

A hugely popular pub in Finchley, The Joiners offers visitors a rustic setting with a friendly, contemporary atmosphere. It’s located on Ballard’s Lane and has a wonderful outdoor beer garden that is perfect for hot days and long nights of relaxation. They have lots of great deals on cocktails, craft beers and prosecco, and you can also grab a bite to eat with everything from tapas-style dishes to large meals all available to order.

The Catcher in the Rye

There aren’t many pubs named after JD Salinger novels, but it’s one of the many standout features of The Catcher in the Rye. You’ll find it on Regents Park Road and it’s always a popular haunt for people in the area. It serves up wholesome traditional British pub food (including a great Sunday roast) and has a wonderful selection of ales, wines and cocktails. You might also be able to snap up a spot in the patio area, which is a great place to unwind in the spring and summer.

The Elephant Inn

This is another must-visit pub on Ballard’s Lane and The Elephant Inn is the place to go if you want to combine traditional Thai cuisine with great drinks, warm customer service and a ton of live sports. The oak-panelled interior gives the bar a traditional feel, complemented further by the wonderful thick oak-style chairs in the dining area. There are also spaces outdoors to eat on the warmer days, along with all the usual drinks you’d expect, and live football, rugby, cricket and more shown throughout the year.

King of Prussia

The King of Prussia on Regents Park Road is a vibrant, independent pub full of character, located only a short walk away from Finchley station. Head out to the beer garden to see the rustic copper-top bar or spend time indoors catching up on the latest sporting events. They have a wide selection national and local craft beers always in rotation, and the homemade pizzas cooked in their stone-baked oven are a delight. And if beers aren’t your thing, you’ll still have plenty of options thanks to their range of gins, premium spirits, cocktails and handpicked wines.

The Old White Lion

For a more traditional pub experience, head down to The Old White Lion on Great North Road. The pub has a long-established history in the area dating back to the 17th century and remains at the heart of the local community today. It regularly puts on quiz nights and comedy stand-up shows and has a spacious outdoor garden where you can enjoy a leisurely summer tipple. There are craft beers, cask ales and all the usual pub classics on the drink’s menu, and if you fancy a warm roast or a tasty sharing platter, the food goes down a treat.
