A Tenant’s Guide to Hendon Property

Hendon is one of north-west London’s most desirable places to live, and there are plenty of rentable properties on the market.

If you’re looking for your next rental home, here’s a guide to the types of property on offer here, and the best areas to start your search.

Room, flat or house?

There’s something to suit everyone in Hendon, regardless of your budget.

Rooms to rent

If you’re looking to keep costs down, there are plenty of rooms available for tenants, which usually cost around £150 to £200 a week. Several of these rooms come with their own en suite bathroom, plus a good amount of space. Some even offer access to the garden.

Flats

For £175 to £575 per week, you can rent your own flat in Hendon. There’s a lot of variation in price, depending on the number of bedrooms available, and the apartment’s location. Properties close to the amenities and train stations tend to command a higher price.

Houses

The market is dominated by apartments. However, there are some good-sized houses available to rent too. Semi-detached and detached homes are the most sought-after, and usually cost the most to rent (anticipate paying £750 per week upwards).

Property styles

Here’s just a few of the more popular types of rental property in Hendon:

Modern flats

There’s a wealth of contemporary apartments in Hendon, which usually offer open-plan living space and airy, generously proportioned rooms. The new buildings at Beaufort Park are a prime example, and are usually decked out to a high spec.

Conversions

Hendon has some beautiful period properties; many of which have been converted into blocks of flats. These have the advantage of retaining many original features, such as bay windows and attractive brick facades. Some smaller period houses have been sub-divided and converted into flats too – this is particularly common in 1920s semi-detached properties. Ground-floor flats are always popular, as they frequently come with gardens.

Semi-detached and detached homes

The semi-detached homes in Hendon are usually 1920s or 1930s, though there are a few modern houses available too. Detached homes come in a variety of architectural styles; from large 1950s designs, to contemporary properties.

Popular areas for tenants in Hendon

The Burroughs

Once a hamlet, The Burroughs is now very much a part of Hendon, and is situated just north of Hendon Central station. There’s been some development around here, and the result is several attractive flats and homes for tenants to rent.

Brent Cross

The Brent Cross area is popular, thanks to its train station and the shopping centre. It’s a good place to search if you’re looking for a larger family home with a driveway and garden.

Near Watford Way

The roads leading off Watford Way are ideal for tenants who want to be close to the station and the local shops. Hendon Park is also nearby, which provides the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon stroll.

Sunny Hill Park

This area boasts some substantial 1920s homes (some sub-divided into flats and rentable rooms), and offers tenants good access to the park, and Middlesex University.
