Five Reasons Why You Should Move to East Finchley

Posted on Tuesday, October 20, 2020

East Finchley is one of North London’s most popular places to live and given what’s on offer there, it’s not hard to see why. It caters for homebuyers of all kinds, with a wealth of great amenities, local schools, and impressive properties to choose from.

If you’re thinking of moving to the area, here are just a few reasons why East Finchley should be top on your list of places to consider.

Why move to East Finchley?

It’s a commuter hotspot

East Finchley is exceptionally well-connected. It’s on the Northern Line in Zone 3, with trains running regularly into Central London throughout the day and takes around half an hour to get to London Bridge. This is ideal for commuters who don’t want a long journey to work each day.

There are also numerous buses operating in the area and those who drive to work will appreciate the proximity to the A1 and the North Circular road.

It’s an affordable option

North London is a sought-after area but many buyers find they can’t afford the properties in nearby Highgate or Hampstead. East Finchley is a great alternative; something that buyers are becoming more aware of.

For example, it’s still possible to get a spacious two-bedroomed apartment in the area for as little as £325,000 – which offers terrific value for money when compared to average London prices.

There’s a wealth of properties to choose from

Architecturally speaking there are a lot of options in East Finchley. The Arts and Crafts properties (near the Hampstead border) are a wonderful example of distinctive period design and are always snapped up quickly when they come to market.

Likewise, the large, detached properties along The Bishop’s Avenue are similarly desirable; though you’ll need a few million in the bank to buy one! For buyers on a less expansive budget there are several characterful Victorian and Edwardian semi-detached and terraced houses in the area and some attractive 1920s homes in Fortis Green. The apartments in modern blocks will undoubtedly appeal to first-time buyers or those looking to downsize.

It has a strong rental market

If you’re thinking of becoming a landlord, East Finchley is a great place to search for a buy-to-let property. The local rental market is thriving with tenants of all ages seeking rented accommodation here.

Look for houses and apartments near the Tube station as these tend to be especially sought-after. Small properties tend to be popular (e.g. one and two-bedroomed flats and houses) and can fetch as much as £1,800 a month in rent.

There’s plenty to do

It’s only a short journey to Central London which means you can access all of the capital’s attractions with ease. However, that’s not to say that East Finchley doesn’t have its own excellent amenities. For example, the Phoenix is the country’s oldest independent cinema and is much prized by the locals.

There are also some quirky independent shops to explore plus many cafes, restaurants and pubs. For natural spaces you’re spoilt for choice in East Finchley with Cherry Tree Wood and Highgate Wood both within easy reach.
