Hasmonean High School for Boys

Information about the school:

Hasmonean High School for Boys is situated on Holders Hill Road and is an academy mainstream. It was awarded ‘outstanding’ in its last Ofsted report and its percentage of students achieving standard passes or above at GCSE is 86% (the national average is 60%). Admissions are handled by the local council.

Catchment area:

There are some excellent properties in and around Holders Hill Road; both spacious detached and semi-detached houses and attractive flats. Linksway is close to the school, and has some affordable terraced properties, while if you’re looking for a larger semi-detached home, try Holders Hill Avenue. Anticipate paying £400,000 for a good-sized apartment in this area, and £550,000 to £850,000 for a house.

St James Catholic High School

Information about the school:

St James is another local secondary school that consistently performs higher than the national average at GCSE. It was awarded ‘good’ in its latest Ofsted report, and is situated on Great Strand, just to the west of Hendon (in Colindale).

Catchment area:

To gain a place at St James, look for properties that are close to Sunny Hill Park. Hall Lane has some period semi-detached houses for around £700,000, and Watford Way offers a similar standard of home for a more affordable price (£550,000 to £650,000 on average).

Independent Jewish Day School

Information about the school:

Independent Jewish Day School is located on Green Lane, and was rated ‘outstanding’ at Ofsted. Admissions are handled by the school, with emphasis on prioritising students that practice the Torah values at home.

Catchment area:

The school has the advantage of being close to Hendon Park, and many families search for properties that lie between the two. Elms Avenue and Elm Park Gardens are two great examples, with large houses going for around £1.2million in this area. Alternatively, there are some affordable flats near Dollis Brook; such as those in Holmdale Gardens, which are priced at around £450,000.

St Mary’s and St John’s C of E School

Information about the school:

St Mary’s and St John’s C of E School takes children aged 4 to 19, and its primary school was rated ‘good’ at its most recent Ofsted inspection. It’s on Sunningfields Road, and admissions are handled by Barnet Council.

Catchment area:

Sunningfields Road is excellent if you’re looking for a reasonably priced apartment, with some starting as low as £350,000. For a generous family home, start your search in neighbouring Sunny Gardens Road, where you’ll find plenty of attractive Victorian semi-detached houses. The apartments in Mulberry Close are another appealing option, and are priced at £400,000 upwards.

Hasmonean Primary School

Information about the school:

Hasmonean Primary School was rated ‘good’ at Ofsted, and is located on Shirehall Lane. When it comes to admissions, priority is given to students who practice the Jewish faith.

Catchment area:

The school is situated between Hendon Park and Dollis Brook, which is an ideal location for families with children. The area around Brent Street has a good range of properties available, and the flats on the North Circular Road offer excellent value for money, with three-bedroomed apartments being on the market for as low as £400,000.
