Why Live in Woodside Park?

Posted on Monday, October 1, 2018

Back in the day Woodside Park was part of an extensive country estate belonging to the Peacock family. To this day it retains a sense of that original peace and ‘countryside appeal’ whilst being within easy reach of Central London.

In short, it’s a great place to live, with something on offer for everyone.

A Garden Suburb

In the 1920’s and 30’s a developer bought up 100 acres of land in the area and transformed it into a garden suburb. Over time, the development expanded, giving Woodside Park its distinct personality.

These original ‘garden suburb houses’ are highly sought after and ideal for young families thanks to their classic features such as bay windows, attractive red-brick design and gable roofs. They usually also come with good-sized gardens, garages and driveways which is a real plus.

Other Styles of Property

There are plenty of other architectural styles on offer in Woodside Park including Victorian and Edwardian properties and many of the larger houses have been converted into apartments which is a good option for young professionals. Likewise, developers have been busy in the area in recent years and there are lots of modern houses and apartments to choose from.

Easy Commute

Woodside Park’s other huge draw is its short commuting times. Woodside Park Tube station takes travellers to St Pancras in around half an hour, or if you prefer to travel by car, the M25 and North Circular are both just a short drive away.

There are also several bus routes in the area which mainly go to other parts of North-West London, such as Hendon, Finchley and Highgate.

Things to Do

Naturally, if you’re looking for an exciting day out (or a glitzy evening), Central London is the popular choice and the regular train service puts it all within easy reach.

However, don’t make the mistake of thinking that Woodside Park is just another commuter-belt town as there are parks, green walks, cafes and horse riding opportunities all to hand. For local shopping, most residents head to North Finchley High Road which is close-by.

Schools

There are excellent schools in Woodside Park which makes it appealing to families with younger children. Woodridge Primary School and Frith Manor Primary School are two examples.

Within the surrounding area St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School is a high performing secondary school, and like Wren Academy, was rated Outstanding at Ofsted. There are also a few sixth form colleges in the area.

Who Would Live in Woodside Park?

Quite simply, the area has something for everyone; green spaces and leafy suburbs for those seeking a more laid-back lifestyle plus plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs nearby and all the attractions of Central London within easy reach. It’s not surprising that Woodside Park is so popular with people of all ages and that once people move into the area they seldom want to move out again.
