Posted on Friday, May 26, 2023

Whether you are new to Hendon or are thinking of moving to the area, you’ll soon discover that there is no shortage of things to do. It’s one of the main reasons why the area appeals to such a broad range of age groups, making it ideal for singles, couples, families and retirees. To give you an idea of what’s available, here are 5 amazing things to do in Hendon.

Brent Cross Shopping Centre

If there’s one place in Hendon that most people already know about, it’s Brent Cross Shopping Centre. Located in the heart of Brent Cross and only a short distance away from Brent Cross train station and with good parking and public transport links, it’s a huge bi-level shopping mall where you can while away hours at a time.

There are over 120 well-known retail stores and 30+ restaurants, cafés and takeaways spots to choose from, so you can plan your meals and pick up a host of deals throughout the day. From Zara and Waterstones to M&S and Holland & Barrett, there’s pretty much something for everyone here.

So, whether you’re on the lookout for new footwear, clothing, accessories, health and beauty or homeware, Brent Cross Shopping Centre will serve as your one-stop shop for everything you need.

Royal Air Force Museum

The Royal Air Force has a long and illustrious history, and you can learn everything you’ve ever wanted to know and more about the Royal Air Force Museum. Doors open at 10am and it’s completely free to visit, so whether you’re a history buff or want to take the kids along to admire the engineering work close up, it makes for a great day out.

There are six hangars in total, each one full of exhibits, which hold a total of 1.3 million items. Each hangar covers a different era, from the First World War and the RAF’s first 100 years of service up until 2018, to dealing with times and political and economic uncertainty and what the future holds in store.

You can find the RAF museum on Grahame Park Way just off the M1 and parking is available, with charges based on how long you are there.

Hendon Park

All good places to live have a nearby park or green space to enjoy and Hendon is no different. Hendon Park is the place to go if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, offering 12 hectares of beautiful greenery to explore.

Some of the facilities available include an outdoor gym, a basketball court, bowls, tennis, gardens, a water feature, and a wide array of wildlife. A host of events take place in the park across the year, with fun fairs also passing through the area, which is great news for families, teenagers and adults who want to let their hair down.

Hendon Park is only a stone’s throw away from Brent Cross Shopping Centre, so whether you want a leisurely stroll or are just curious to see what the park has to offer, it’s easy to find and there’s lots to enjoy.

Stranger Things: The Experience

For fans of the hit TV series, Stranger Things: The Experience is a must visit. Located at Troubadour Brent Cross Studios, it’s an immersive experience that transports you into the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana back in 1985, allowing you to enjoy the very best moments of the show.

You’ll be able to put yourself in the shoes of Eleven and the rest of the gang, taking your time to explore iconic sets, unearth supernatural secrets, live out some of your favourite moments and indulge in themed food and drink.

The Upside Down is brought to life in vivid detail, and there is also a cool Mix-Tape Area filled with sets and the opportunity to take some memorable snaps, before heading to the fun, themed bar. So, if you love the show or just adore 80s nostalgia, this is not something to be missed.

Topsy Turvy World

Whether it’s in the evening, on weekends or during the school holidays, parents know that their kids need fun and safe spaces to burn off some energy. That’s what makes Topsy Turvy World so popular with mums, dads and kids under 12 years old, as it offers a large indoor play centre that ensures everyone is kept entertained.

There is a dedicated play area for children aged 3 and under, so they can enjoy their own space and play time, whilst the main multi-tiered frame area features a padded, one-way system for under 12s who love adventure and excitement.

Topsy Turvy is located opposite Brent Cross Shopping Centre, which is where you can also park if you are driving.
