A guide to some of the best restaurants in Hendon

Posted on Monday, December 20, 2021

Hendon has a plenty to offer in the evenings and on weekends, with a lot of fantastic restaurants, cafés and eateries to try out. To give you an idea of what to expect, here is a short guide to some of the best restaurants in Hendon.

Amaretto Ristorante

Situated on Central Circus is Amaretto Ristorante, which has been serving up delicious southern Italy cuisine since 2005 (the Amaretto Coffee Shops are sister restaurants in Hendon and Golders Green). It’s the place to go in Hendon for an authentic Italian dining experience, with everything from delicious pasta dishes through to mouth-watering fish and pizza delights. And if you’re not in the mood for eating out, you can order online and enjoy the wonderful food in the comfort of your own home.

Sami’s Restaurant

Sami’s Restaurant cooks up wonderful glatt kosher (which is generally seen as a higher standard of kashrut) and is a hugely popular local restaurant in the area. Located on Hale End, Sami’s take great pride in their food and love nothing more than welcoming newcomers venturing in to discover a true taste of Israel. You can expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly chat and dishes that will more than satisfy your taste buds.

Hummus Bar

There are two Hummus Bars in the area – one in Hendon (Brent Street) and another just down the road in Golders Green. All the hummus dishes are homemade and freshly prepared twice a day, using a fantastic array of high quality ingredients. They’ve been around since 2016, and place an emphasis on never using powders, preservatives or frozen food in any of their dishes. The food looks great and tastes even better, and once tried it’s a restaurant you’ll want to return to time and again.

Cafegenic

Fans of Mediterranean, fusion and Middle Eastern food will find that Cafegenic has plenty on offer to satisfy their taste buds. Everyone raves about the quality of the food (which is all organic) and the cosy setting makes it a place you’ll want to return to time and again. The chef/owner is known for his very friendly demeanour and it advertises itself as LGBTQ+ friendly, ensuring a diverse mixture of people at all times. Pop along to Central Circus and try it out for yourself.

White Fish

White Fish isn’t your run of the mill fish restaurant. Before entering the restaurant business the owners worked in the fashion industry for over 40 years and bring that same visual flair to their Kosher dishes. White Fish has gone from strength to strength since opening its doors in 2012, and as a family restaurant has established itself as a key part of the local community. They service classic and pan-Asian seafood dishes and can be found on Bell Lane.

Oishii Sushi

From Sashimi and Tempura to Donburi and Ramen, if you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine Oishii Sushi has it all. The Hendon chain is part of a small chain of sushi restaurants located around the capital. Located on Watford’s Way, they specialise in Izakaya-style cooking and you can dine in or order directly from their website. All the food is freshly prepared and while the restaurant itself is quite small, it creates an intimate and warm environment.

The Arena

The Arena is tucked away in Central Circus, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled to find it. Once you venture down the stairs it opens out into a large restaurant-come-sports bar, with pool tables, lots of screens and a late licensed bar. Later in the evening, the Arena Club comes to life complete with dancefloor and live DJ. The Indian restaurant has a great local reputation and serves all the usual favourites, so you won’t be disappointed with the food either.
