The Best Options for First-Time Buyers in Our Areas

Posted on Tuesday, September 10, 2019

If you’re a first-time buyer, you’ll find plenty of great options in Borehamwood, Finchley, Hendon and Mill Hill. From modern apartments to cosy two and three bedroomed houses, there’s a range of excellent properties on the market, providing you know where to look.

Here’s a run-through of the best areas to start your search.

Borehamwood

Borehamwood is widely regarded as one of Hertfordshire’s most prominent up-and-coming locations, which means properties are still affordable (but look set to rise in value in the future). As such, it’s the ideal place for first-time buyers to search for a home.

If you’re on a typical first-time buyer budget, we’d recommend viewing some of the apartments in the area, such as those near Studio Way, Danziger Way or Manor Way, close to both the town centre and the train station.

Many of the developers in the area also offer shared ownership, which is a savvy way to get on the property ladder. If you’re looking for a larger property, then explore the northern side of Borehamwood, where houses are often slightly cheaper.

Finchley

Finchley officially has three town centres; East Finchley, North Finchley and Finchley Church End. Of these, North Finchley is typically the most affordable.

Prices are higher in Finchley than in Borehamwood but there are many purpose built blocks and attractive flats in converted period properties which offer spacious accommodation for a reasonable price.

Hendon

Hendon is one of the best-connected north London suburbs; but despite this fact, properties are surprisingly reasonably priced in some locations. The popular Beaufort Park development is a great place to start looking for your first home, with several stylish apartments on the market.

The Hendon Waterside development also has some stunning flats and some can be purchased with the Help to Buy scheme. Likewise the Oakwood Park development is another solid option.

Some of the 1930s semi-detached properties have been sub-divided into flats which may be appealing for those seeking period features and a driveway.

Mill Hill

With its leafy streets and green areas, Mill Hill feels a world away from the capital which is why it’s so sought-after. It’s traditionally regarded as a ‘family’ location but younger buyers have equally made it their own; drawn to the area thanks to the quick commute to Central London.

There are plenty of reasonably priced apartments on the market as well as two and three bedroomed houses catering for the first time buyer.

Millbrook Park and the Lidbury Square development are popular choices amongst first time buyers.
